A remarkable amount of progress has been made in the field of GenAI over the last year, resulting in it becoming an increasingly sought-after technology among mobile and e-commerce developers as well as end users. Mobile and e-commerce developers in Indonesia have incorporated GenAI features into their applications as a result of this surge in interest and technological advancement, improving the efficiency and usability of their applications. It is the purpose of this book to provide an overview of the current state of GenAI integration by Indonesian mobile and e-commerce application developers. Using insights gathered from a survey and focus group discussions, we explore the key trends, strategies, use cases and challenges associated with the use of GenAI within the mobile and e-commerce industry. It has been demonstrated that GenAI is having a transformative impact on application development, offering both opportunities and challenges to developers. The focus group discussions provided valuable insight into the current practices and future directions of GenAI integration, reflecting a dynamic and evolving market. With continued focus on developer trends and technological advancements, the authors consider this paper to be a pivotal reference for understanding how Indonesian mobile and e-commerce use GenAI to redefine functionality and user experience in their applications.

About the author

Siddhartha Paul Tiwari is an award-winning academic, technologist and researcher. He leads Google Asia Pacific's Mobile Policy and Planning based out of Singapore. Previously he spearheaded Google's global learning and development initiatives from Tokyo. He’s widely recognized for pioneering strides in educational innovation, mobile tech, digital strategies, and ICT. He’s an elected fellow of ‘The Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland’. His literary contributions span from the insightful book, 'The Impact of New Technologies on Society: A Blueprint for the Future', to a plethora of essays and discourses. Siddhartha has graced various global platforms, including TEDx, G20 and United Nations. In response to the ever-evolving educational landscape, he has introduced innovative postgraduate courses and curricula. He has served as visiting faculty at various esteemed institutions like INSEAD Singapore, IIT Delhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration Mussoorie, and IIM Indore.

Dr. Adi Fahrudin is a Professor in Social Work at the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Bhayangkara Jakarta Raya, Indonesia (from 1 March 2022 until present). Prof Adi was early trained at Social Work Senior High School in Palembang, Indonesia, and became the best graduate (1986). He graduated and obtained a Doctorandus (Drs) in Social Work from the Bandung College of Social Welfare in 1991 (the best graduate), a Master of Social Science (Social Work) at the University of Science Malaysia in 1996, and then obtained a Ph.D. in Social Work from the same university in 1999. He also studied at the undergraduate level after his Ph.D. and obtained a Bachelor of Psychology (B.Psych) from PASIM University of Bandung (2010). In June 2022, Prof Adi was appointed as Director of the Institute for Research, Community Service and Publication. Since August 2023, he has been appointed Acting Dean of the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Bhayangkara Jakarta Raya. Before that, he was Professor in Social Work seconded to the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, at the University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta (1 January 2012- 28 February 2022) and the Bandung Polytechnic of Social Welfare (1 March 1993 – December 2011). Prof Adi was also appointed as a Visiting Professor at the Japan University College of Social Work, Tokyo Japan (2018-2025). From 2015-2023, he was appointed as a Visiting Professor and Associate Research Fellow at The Psychology and Social Health Research Unit, Faculty of Psychology and Education, Universiti Malaysia Sabah. Previously he was appointed as a Visiting Professor in the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences, Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UnisZa), Malaysia (2014-2015), and Visiting Associate Professor at Universiti Sains Malaysia (1997-1998).
