About this audiobook

The end of the Napoleonic wars comes as a relief to Caspar Graysmark, but before he can settle into the comfortable life of an English lord he has a duty to the people of France. A treasure lies hidden in the heart of the forest, stolen gold that would save the lives of many who lost everything during the war. In his quest, Caspar stumbles across a hidden cottage in the woods, and a different sort of treasure altogether.

Scarlett, living with her sister and grandmother, belongs nowhere. Her father’s mistakes led to their exile from England and their banishment into the forest. The cold winter months have taken their toll on Scarlett’s spirits and her grandmother’s health. The Englishman who arrives at Scarlett’s door, looking more like a bear than a captain of the British army, reminds her of all she lost to the war.

With winter drawing to a close, Caspar must find the missing gold, but his quest to right the wrongs of war has changed. Can Scarlett let him rescue her, too?

The Captain and Miss Winter is based on the story of Snow White and Rose Red, as recorded by the Brothers Grimm. It is a sweet/clean romance novella, and is Book 2 in a series of Regency retellings.

I'll admit that our author is a favorite, so I couldn't resist this #cleanread retelling of a beloved fairy tale. Because it's sweet and clean, doesn't mean it lacks substance. Listened start to finish during a cross country plane trip. The level of detail allowed me to feel emersed in the deep wood forest of France at the end of the Napoleonic war, instead of Row 15 A. Our narrator is also a favorite who brings depth to this character driven story. Take a listen & enjoy

I love a good rewrite of fairytales, but I think novellas often fail at good storytelling so I was pleasantly surprised when this fairytale was familiar and enticing. In this version the bear that comes to the door is a frozen soldier in a big fur coat who has a has a raspy voice. It made the story more realistic. Everyone has secrets to reveal. A well written, easy to listen to, clean story. The narrator does fantastic with her voices. I got a free copy of this book, & freely leave a review.

I was enchanted by this fairytale retelling by Sally Britton. The English Miss Winter, along with her sister and grandmother, live in a lonely cabin in the woods of France. Along comes a handsome captain of the British army, looking for hidden treasure. While this isn’t a Christmas story, it’s set during winter and has a cozy vibe, perfect for listening to in front of the fire. One of my favorite novellas of Sally Britton. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review
