About this audiobook

Conversations draws you deeper into the life story of someone you may, or may not, have heard about - someone who has seen and done amazing things. This compilation features a selection of six of the best interviews from the program: Dr Andrew Browning chose to pursue a life of service to others in Ethiopia helping thousands of women have a future through his work as the world’s most experienced surgeon in fistula repair. Sue-Ellen Kusher tells her amazing story of living with her parents, who were undercover ASIO agents in the Brisbane suburbs at the height of the Cold War. Maggie Dent is one of Australia’s favourite parenting authors and educators and she talks about how to understand and communicate with teenage boys. Peter Garrett has had many chapters in his life story as a musician, an environmental lobbyist, and a politician, to name a few. Mandy McCracken is a quadruple amputee who uses prosthetic limbs to walk, drive and do things around the house, and is now ready to return to her favourite pastime: rock climbing. Wendy Harmer is a trailblazer who has enjoyed huge success over four decades as a comedian, tv host, a radio presenter, and the author of many books for children and adults.

About the author

Writer-broadcaster Richard Fidler is the author of the bestselling books The Golden Maze and Ghost Empire, and co-author of the bestselling Saga Land with Kári Gíslason. Fidler presents 'Conversations', an in-depth, up-close-and-personal interview program. 'Conversations' is broadcast across Australia on ABC Radio and podcast all over the world to millions of listeners.

Sarah Kanowski studied English at the University of Oxford, where she wrote a thesis on the Mosley family. Sarah then spent a year in South America before settling back in Australia. In Hobart she edited the literary magazine Island, until sun and grandparents beckoned her back to Brisbane where she now lives with her husband and three young children. She presented Books and Arts on ABC RN and looked after Conversations when Richard Fidler was away.

Commonly known as the 'Queen of Common Sense', Maggie Dent has become one of Australia's favourite parenting authors and educators, with a particular interest in the early years, adolescence and resilience. She is the author of six books, including her bestselling 2018 release Mothering Our Boys. Maggie is a prolific creator of resources for parents, adolescents, teachers, educators and others who are interested in quietly improving their lives.

Peter Garrett is a long-time advocate and campaigner on a range of local and global issues. A member of Midnight Oil, one of Australia’s most successful bands, he served as a cabinet minister in the Rudd/Gillard Labor governments from 2007 to 2013. A member of the Order of Australia for contributions to the music industry and environment, and an Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters (France), in 2010 he received the ‘Leaders for a Living Planet’ award from WWF Australia & International.
