Jonathan Israel

Jonathan Israel is professor emeritus of modern European history in the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton University. His publications include The Enlightenment That Failed: Ideas, Revolution and Democratic Defeat, 1748-1830 (Oxford, 2019), The Expanding Blaze: How the American Revolution Ignited the World (1775-1850) (Princeton, 2017), and Revolutionary Ideas: An Intellectual History of the French Revolution from The Rights of Man to Robespierre (Princeton, 2014).
