John R Vile

Dr John R. Vile is a Professor of Political Science and Dean of the University Honors College at Middle Tennessee State University. A specialist in US constitutional law, he has written and edited numerous books, including volumes on the US Constitution, the constitutional amending process, the First Amendment, the US Constitutional Convention of 1787, Supreme Court decisions, historic US documents, religion in public life, and iconic American symbols. Vile, who served for 25 years as a mock trial coach, has previously compiled a book of US presidential victory and concession speeches. He received the MTSU Career Achievement Award for 2010-2011 and the statewide Harold Love Award for Public Service for 2017-2018, and was named as the Phi Kappa Phi Scholar for 2020-2022. In addition to numerous scholarly articles, reviews, and book chapters, he has published a variety of op-ed pieces on contemporary issues and is frequently consulted by media outlets.
