Jitendra Behari

Jitendra Behari holds a PhD in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (1971). He joined the Department of Biomedical Engineering of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in 1973. Dr Behari is currently a Professor at the School of Environmental Sciences of Jawaharlal Nehru University. He also holds an Honorary D.Sc. Degree in Bioelectromagnetics (Ansted University, UK at Penang, Malaysia, awarded August 2001). Dr Behari has been a Fulbright Fellow and Adjunct Faculty at Michigan State University, a DAAD fellow, recipient of a fellowship from the Japanese Association of Cultivation Sciences and British Council and has been a career awardee (University Grants Commission). He is a fellow of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers and the Ultrasonic Society of India, and is a senior member of the IEEE. He has been a member of Commission K of the URSI, of IEEE Engineering in Medicine, of the Biology Society, the Electromagnetics Academy (USA), and the Indian Science Congress Association, and has served on executive bodies of the Biomedical Engineering Society of India and the Indian Society of Biomechanics. Dr Behari is also a former Chairman of the IEEE ED MTT Chapter and Executive Member of the Indian Physics Association. His main research interests are in the areas of soil moisture measurement, wastewater treatment, and bioelectromagnetics, with special focus on the applications of microwaves and solid state physics techniques in the environmental sciences. He has produced more than one hundred research publications, has written several books, and holds four patents.
