In 1962, Don Richardson and his wife, Carol, embarked on a missionary career in Netherlands New Guinea (now Papua, Indonesia), where they served for 15 years among the Sawi. Don and Carol designed an alphabet suited to their language, taught the Sawi to read, and translated the New Testament into their native tongue. As a registered nurse, Carol was known as the woman who makes everyone well. Following their time in Indonesia, Don wrote books and spoke at churches, conferences, and Perspectives classes, mobilizing many to pursue missions. Among his most well-known books are Peace Child (from which Treachery on the Twisted River is adapted), Eternity in Their Hearts, and Lords of the Earth. Don passed away in 2018 at the age of 83 after a battle with brain cancer.
