Jahrestages der Ermordung des spanischen Theologen und Menschenrechtskämpfers Ignacio Ellacuría unternehmen die Beiträge des Bandes den Versuch, Perspektiven utopischen Denkens in der Gegenwart auszuloten. Ellacurías Vision einer globalen »Zivilisation geteilter Genügsamkeit« dient dabei als Ausgangspunkt, um in interdisziplinärer Weise nach Potentialen des Utopischen zu fragen, die heute gegen den latenten Fatalismus einer sich globalisierenden »Zivilisation der Gleichgültigkeit« (Papst Franziskus) geltend gemacht werden können. Eine kritische Relecture des Utopischen tritt dabei an die Stelle des proklamierten »Endes der Utopie«, wobei die Frage nach einer möglichen Zukunft für die Opfer der gegenwärtigen Zivilisation leitend ist.
