Taylor, The Captain's Revenge⠀ ⠀ The Captain's Revenge by Jessica Taylor comes out today and is an action packed, dark fantasy with a spooky seafaring aesthetic. ⠀ ⠀ I really enjoyed the banter of the pirates and the syrens as they searched for ways to find Brigid. Pirates Caelum and Duncan were hilarious when they butt heads with Kyla and the other syrens but I admired the quiet strength that permeated the group of women. Kyla's sentiment, “We’ll never be truly free, Caelum. It’s a pleasant notion , but the sea will always call to us, no matter where we are.”, summed up the motivation of the syrens well and I was so happy to see them working together to take down Cliodhna. ⠀ ⠀ Brigid's scenes were hard to read and definitely led to the Dark Fantasy element with intense episodes of torture.
