‘A flawless masterpiece’
The Times

Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who enjoys a comfortable, unambitious life, rarely travelling further than the pantry of his hobbit-hole in Bag End. But his contentment is disturbed when the wizard, Gandalf, and a company of thirteen dwarves arrive on his doorstep one day, to whisk him away on a journey ‘there and back again’. They have a plot to raid the treasure hoard of Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon...

The prelude to THE LORD OF THE RINGS, THE HOBBIT has sold many millions of copies since its publication in 1937, establishing itself as one of the most beloved and influential books of the twentieth century.

I read The Hobbit just once, a year before the initial film was released, and it instantly became my favourite book. Despite the extended editions, running over three hours, the film adaptations couldn’t quite capture the magic I felt when reading Tolkien’s work. I also found the book to be accessible even for a new reader and a wonderful introduction to the world of Middle-earth, offering an experience that surpassed what the cinematic versions could offer. If you haven’t read it or have only seen the films and you’re curious about how it compares to the trilogy, you’re in for a treat. In hindsight, I agree with Peter Jackson’s statement that he needed more time to bring his vision to life. Alternatively, Guillermo del Toro should have been allowed to complete his interpretation, followed by another to bridge the gap between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

The Hobbit is a classic fantasy adventure story that is full of excitement and wonder. It follows the journey of Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit who leaves his comfortable home to join a group of dwarves on a quest to reclaim their treasure from the dragon Smaug. The book is full of memorable characters, from the wise wizard Gandalf to the grumpy dwarf Thorin Oakenshield. The world of Middle-earth is rich and imaginative, and Tolkien's writing is both beautiful and captivating. I highly recommend The Ho
