Un homme l'observe avec l'intérêt qu'éveille chez lui toute jolie somme passant à sa portée, car il se nomme Raoul d'Averny, alias Arsène Lupin. Cette aventure est la dernière d'Arsène Lupin tant dans la chronologie de notre héros que dans la bibliographie de Maurice Leblanc le concernant (exception faite des «Milliards d'Arsène Lupin»).

Marie Émile Maurice Leblanc est un romancier français né le 11 décembre 1864, à Rouen, et mort le 6 novembre 1941, à Perpignan. Auteur de nombreux romans policiers et d'aventures, il est le créateur du célèbre gentleman-cambrioleur Arsène Lupin.
