About this ebook

The Vagrant is his name. He has no other.

Years have passed since humanity’s destruction emerged from the Breach.

Friendless and alone he walks across a desolate, war-torn landscape.

As each day passes the world tumbles further into depravity, bent and twisted by the new order, corrupted by the Usurper, the enemy, and his infernal horde.

His purpose is to reach the Shining City, last bastion of the human race, and deliver the only weapon that may make a difference in the ongoing war.

What little hope remains is dying. Abandoned by its leader, The Seven, and its heroes, The Seraph Knights, the last defences of a once great civilisation are crumbling into dust.

But the Shining City is far away and the world is a very dangerous place.

I stumbled upon this title and thought what the hey, I'll give it a go what with it winning a David gemmell award. Loved it! The poetry and prose style of writing put me in mind of Japanese anime, and even those the details were a bit elusive it allows the reader to use their imagination to fill in the gaps. In a word this debut book is Excellent

A slowly uncurling story about a man on a mission, a baby he protects, a sword he carries and a goat that's hungry as hell. Serious story mixed with random moments complement each other to create a captivating tale where you need to pay attention to understand what's going on. Highly recommended if you like smart fantasy books! Also, the main character is mute, so you basically plunge ahead with descriptions (mostly).

i was drawn in from the first paragraph, and i am very hard to please, so i usually grab books that do this. i liked the slow build up to the mystery of the vagrant, however i would say that elements of the story were quite confusing and rushed. it may help me to read it again before moving on to the malice. overall i enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from this author.
