I struggled with this book, but as it's the first of a series I assumed it was a fledgling writer hitting her stride. I was really surprised when reading the end notes, as it is the author's eleventh book. The plot is well constructed and the final reveal is sufficiently surprising to keep the reader's attention. What did not work for me was the scene by scene writing which was poorly done. Dialogue is stilted and lurches from one cliché to the next. In good conscience I cannot recommend.
