This book examines the efforts and strategies implemented to sustain maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health services in Yemen amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. It highlights the critical shortage of health workers in Yemen, exacerbated by years of conflict and the pandemic, which has devastated healthcare facilities. The Systems, Health and Resiliency Project (SHARP), led by John Snow, Inc. and supported by USAID, aimed to address these challenges by enhancing community-based healthcare approaches. The project focuses on improving maternal and child health outcomes, increasing community engagement, and strengthening the resilience of Yemen's health system. Key initiatives include the recruitment of community midwives and health volunteers to provide reproductive health services, particularly in rural areas. The book provides insights into the adaptation of healthcare services to meet the demands of the pandemic and the importance of preparing for future health emergencies.
