He embarked on a career in journalism, which proved a springboard for his literary aspirations. Sienkiewicz's magnum opus is undoubtedly the epic historical novel 'With Fire and Sword' (Ogniem i Mieczem, 1884), the first in his acclaimed Trilogy depicting 17th-century Polish history, teeming with heroic deeds and national turmoil.
