A major objective of this volume is to create and share knowledge about the socio-economic, political and cultural dimensions of climate change. The authors analyze the effects of climate change on the social and environmental determinants of the health and well-being of communities (i.e. poverty, clean air, safe drinking water, food supplies) and on extreme events such as floods and hurricanes. The book covers topics such as the social and political dimensions of the ebola response, inequalities in urban migrant communities, as well as water-related health effects of climate change. The contributors recommend political and social-cultural strategies for mitigate, adapt and prevent the impacts of climate change to human and environmental health. The book will be of interest to scholars and practitioners interested in new methods and tools to reduce risks and to increase health resilience to climate change.

About the author

Walter Leal Filho is a professor at Hamburg University of Applied Sciences in Germany and Manchester Metropolitan University, UK, where he leads a set of international projects on matters related to sustainable development and climate change.
Fátima Alves, Phd in Sociology of Health, is Professor at Social Sciences an Management Department, Universidade Aberta and senior Researcher at CEMRI, UAb and at CEF, Coimbra University. Coordinates the extension of the Centre for Functional Ecology of Coimbra University.
Ulisses M Azeiteiro is a Professor at the Universidade Aberta and a Senior Researcher at the Centre for Functional Ecology of Coimbra University where he is the Coordinator of the Group History of Science, Scientific Communication and Dissemination . In the area of Sustainability he is member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Sustainability in Higher Education and he published several books in Sustainability Science.
