It's one of the most engaging books I've ever read. The characters seem to leap out of the pages. They have such depth to them. The narration is so humourous and flowing. The background to the book is so widely researched and includes all facades of Indian society. You could be reading about the lives of the lowest caste in India and then taken to the lives of high court judges in the next chapter. I'm deeply moved by Vikram Seth's India. Highly recommended, and I will read it again!!

A vibrantly multifaceted palimpsest of events, characters - their desires, dreams and downfalls all simultaneously moving together and finally converging to "keep you company" as reviewed previously "for a lifetime"

About the author
Vikram Seth has written five books of poetry, an opera libretto, and a book of other libretti. He is perhaps best known for his acclaimed novel, A SUITABLE BOY, one of the most beloved and widely read books of recent times, as well as his novels THE GOLDEN GATE and AN EQUAL MUSIC. He is the author of two highly regarded works of non-fiction, FROM HEAVEN LAKE and TWO LIVES.
