Vanity Fair, an early 19th century novel, was written by William Makepeace Thackeray. Amelia and Becky, two friends from the same school, are opposites of each other. While Amelia is loving and kind, Becky is cunning and strong-willed but impoverished. Becky also has the quality to attract men wherever she goes. Although at first he warns Joseph to stay away from Becky, later newlywed George ignores Amelia, favouring the company of Becky.
