Robert Louis Stevenson (1850–1894) was a Scottish novelist, poet,

essayist and travel writer. He grew up in Edinburgh and published

his first story at the age of 16. He was best known for his adventure

novels and travel writing which were extremely well received even

back in the day. He was a celebrated writer in his own life time and

his popularity has continued to grow over time. He is believed to

be one of the most widely translated authors in the world and has

been the inspiration of many of the foremost writers of the modern

world. His best known works are Treasure Island (1883) and The

Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (1886). Other works include

Kidnapped (1886), A Child’s Garden of Verses (1885), Underwoods

(1887), An Inland Voyage (1878) and Travels with a Donkey in the

Cévennes (1879).
