Definitheit ist ein Begriff, der in der Sprachwissenschaft eng mit der Verwendung des Artikels verbunden ist. Es ist jedoch umstritten, welche Rolle Definitheit in Sprachen ohne Artikel spielt. In ihrem Band geht die Autorin von dem semantisch-pragmatischen Konzept der Identifizierbarkeit aus, das in Sprachen mit Artikel als Definitheit grammatisch realisiert wird, aber auch in artikellosen Sprachen zum Ausdruck kommt. Vor diesem Hintergrund untersucht sie für das Chinesische, wie tragfähig die bisherigen Annahmen zur Markierung von Definitheit überhaupt sind und wie Sprecher die Identifikation des gemeinten Referenten durch den Hörer sicherstellen bzw. wie Hörer den intendierten Referenten identifizieren, wenn Identifizierbarkeit nicht eindeutig markiert wird.
