About this ebook

“Eloisa James is extraordinary.”
—Lisa Kleypas

“Nothing gets me to the bookstore faster than a new novel by Eloisa James.”
—Julia Quinn

New York Times bestselling author Eloisa James gives the classic Hans Christian Andersen story of “The Ugly Duckling” a wonderful, witty, and delightfully passionate twist. The Ugly Duchess is another fairytale inspired romance from the unparalleled storyteller whose writing, author Teresa Medieros raves, “is truly scrumptious.” A sexy and fun historical romance, James’s winning tale of a glorious reawakening does not feature ducks and swans—rather it’s a charming story of a young woman unaware of her own beauty, suddenly duty-bound to wed the dashing gentleman who has always been her platonic best friend…until now.

This book was horrible. Both of the characters were very annoying and it was hard to feel any sympathy for either of them. Also after the big misunderstanding instead of saying sorry the hero left for 7 years and became a pirate who killed, stole and slept around.... and she forgives him in under 2 days.... nice... :(

The first time I read this it was beautiful to my young eyes but now I see a lonely woman who deserved better. Lovesick and Loyal indeed! Daisy should had at least two children of her own when he returned. She was smart, capable and had her own money. For once in these stories let the man have to deal! Four stars for being well written though I do love this author.

Generally the book started in a pretty nice way and had a good potential. I couldn't wait to see James standing up to his father one day and protect his Daisy... but I kinda find it hard to like James in the second part of the book. I did not expect him to act like a coward and following the path of wrong decisions just to come back after so long and act like nothing happened. Even his final break-down felt like not a big regret or thought what he put his Daisy through. He rather blames everyone around for breaking his promises (like when he said to his father in the beginning he would never hurt Daisy by being unfaithful or leaving her right after she got hurt one time after another and tells her later she threw him out while she was just so hurt by him). He was young, I understand that. People make mistakes but instead of real regret and make up, he acts like 'I will never beg' and tricks her into giving up to him... really hard to like him.

About the author

Eloisa James is a USA Today and New York Times bestselling author and professor of English literature, who lives with her family in New York, but can sometimes be found in Paris or Italy. She is the mother of two and, in a particularly delicious irony for a romance writer, is married to a genuine Italian knight.
