About this eBook

Over a decade after violating his ruthless orders from his superiors in the Basilean military, ex-legion captain Dionne emerges from hiding in the Mountains of Tarkis, leading a force of rebels against the dark forces of the Abyss. Desperate to clamp down on the popular rebel leader, the Basilean Duma dispatches a force to bring the former legion officer to justice. Leading the paladins of this force is Tancred, freshly promoted and harboring political ambitions of his own. Under the brutal leadership of Hugh, the commander of the force, Tancred must struggle to find the balance between obeying orders, following the path of righteousness, and advancing his own ambitions.

Following various characters enmeshed in the military of Basilea, Steps to Deliverance offers a view into the Hegemony of Basilea, both the good and the bad. Mark Barber's characters have a level depth that is often missing in fantasy novels, particularly those for gaming intellectual properties. it's sets the standard for Winged Hussar publishing and Mantic Games. The action is described such that the battles many players are familiar with take on a cinematic element, with common tactics and ploys getting described. Not to be ignored also is the insight into the Forces of the Abyss, and how they lure people in to bolster their already unending ranks. Would love to see a sequel and follow these characters yet further, but also see more of Basilea and the Abyss.
