Seit geraumer Zeit wird mit dem Begriff "Denkform" die Einsicht bezeichnet, dass über Gott und Offenbarung nicht geschichtsenthoben und objektiv zu sprechen ist. Vielmehr ist alle theologische Rede von philosophischem Vorverständnis, historischem Verständnishorizont, kulturellen Lebensstilen oder auch von der konfessionellen Grundierung geprägt. Erstmals untersucht der Autor exemplarische Entwürfe systematischer Theologie mit dem Ziel, die darin wirksamen Denkformen sichtbar zu machen und die Auftrittsbedingungen des Gottesbegriffs zu analysieren. Für die paradigmatische Erforschung wurden die umfassenden Entwürfe von Wolfhart Pannenberg, Eberhard Jüngel und Gisbert Greshake ausgewählt.
