About this ebook

The prompt management of tissue injuries resulting from trauma, accidents or surgical procedures is critical. Such injuries could be life-threatening due to uncontrolled bleeding and wound-associated infections. Immediate closure of such exposed tissues is highly desirable in order to prevent unforeseen effects. The traditional method of suturing is laborious, unpleasant, damaging to the parenchymal tissues and requires specialized expertise. Tissue adhesives have emerged as a potential substitute. Commercially available tissue-adhesives possess various limitations. In this regard, great effort has been made to develop different functional tissue adhesives even for multifunctional applications. This book summarizes the advances in this field: historical background, market trends of the use of tissue adhesives, along with the chemistry behind the tissue adhesion. In addition, the book describes the development of various functional tissue adhesives and their respective biomedical applications.• Tissue-adhesives are one of the emerging materials being employed in biomedical industries and the book provides advanced information regarding the development and applications of adhesives technologies in the field of biomedical sciences• Provides an overview of the development of various functional adhesives for biomedical applications• Includes the latest developments in this fast-changing field
