Traumatic brain injury (also called a ”head injury”) must include trauma to the head followed by at least one of the following: any period of loss of consciousness any loss of memory for events immediately before or after the accident any alteration in mental state at the time of the accident or focal neurological signs or symptoms indicative of brain injury, which may be transient or permanent. Traumatic brain injury may also be diagnosed by the findings of diagnostic imaging studies. A blow to the head is not enough to diagnose a traumatic head injury.
