About the author

Author Samuel Torvend is Professor of the History of Christianity at Pacific Lutheran University (Tacoma, WA). He is Director of the Wild Hope Project on Vocation, and Director of the Center for Religion and Culture in the Pacific Northwest. He also serves as priest associate for adult formation at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Seattle.

A graduate of Pacific Lutheran University, he holds the MDiv (Wartburg Seminary), MA (Aquinas Institute of Theology), and PhD (St. Louis University). He is the author of Daily Bread, Holy Meal: Opening the Gifts of Holy Communion (Augsburg Fortress) and Luther and the Hungry Poor: Gathered Fragments (Fortress Press).
