Gothikana: A Dark Academia Gothic Romance

I'm sorry, and I'm happy for anyone who enjoyed this book, but it had so many problems I just couldn't get past. This does not read like a work that has been through a professional edit in either structure or linework. The prose is poorly focused and very prone to malapropisms and other errors. The plot is badly paced and again suffers from being poorly focused, with a lot of the beats meant to move the plot forward glossed over in favour of a sex scene that adds very little. The setting was badly neglected, as well, making it hard to put things in context. I think I could see what the author was going for with Corvina as someone who was strong-willed but also naive and insecure, but I think this was badly missed and she ended up feeling frustratingly childlike and passive a lot of the time. Vad, however, I just cannot understand. I'm okay with a problematic love interest but he has none of the character work to balance how consistently petulant, demanding, and unpleasant he is.

I enjoyed this book, very different than her usual writings which is what made it interesting. it's not your typical romance books 3/5 Spice, 2/5 Smut (yes they are different) 3/5 overall mark as it wasn't what I expected, or normally enjoyed, but it was a good book so that's why it gets an extra star here
