About the author

R. Simon Sherratt was born near Liverpool, England, in 1969. He is currently Professor of biosensors at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, University of Reading, UK. His main research area is signal processing and personal communications in consumer devices, focusing on wearable devices and health care. Professor Sherratt received the 1st place IEEE Chester Sall Memorial Award in 2006, the 2nd place in 2016, and the 3rd place in 2017.

João Manuel R. S. Tavares graduated in mechanical engineering at the Universidade do Porto, Portugal, in 1992. He also earned his M.Sc. degree and Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from the Universidade do Porto in 1995 and 2001 and attained his habilitation in mechanical engineering in 2015 from the same university. He is Senior Researcher at the Instituto de Ciência e Inovação em Engenharia Mecânica e Engenharia Industrial (INEGI) and Full Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering (DEMec) of the Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto (FEUP). He has been Head of DEMec since June 2023. João Tavares is Co-Editor of more than 80 books, Co-Author of more than 50 book chapters, 650 articles in international and national journals and conferences, and 3 international and 3 national patents. He has been Committee Member of several international and national journals and conferences.

Simon Fong graduated from La Trobe University, Australia, with a 1st class honours B.Eng. computer systems degree and a Ph.D. computer science degree in 1993 and 1998, respectively. Simon is now working as Associate Professor at the Computer and Information Science Department of the University of Macau. Prior to his academic career, Simon took up various IT posts in Melbourne, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Dr. Fong has published over 396 international conference and journal papers, mostly in the areas of data mining and metaheuristics. He is also one of Founding Members of the Data Analytics and Collaborative Computing Research Group in the Faculty of Science and Technology.

Nilanjan Dey (Senior Member, IEEE) received the B.Tech., M.Tech. in information technology from West Bengal Board of Technical University and Ph.D. degrees in electronics and telecommunication engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India, in 2005, 2011, and 2015, respectively. Currently, he is Professor with the Techno International New Town, Kolkata and a visiting fellow of the University of Reading, UK. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of Ambient Computing and Intelligence, Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Technology and Society and series Co-Editor of Springer Tracts in Nature-Inspired Computing and Data-Intensive Research from Springer Nature and Advances in Ubiquitous Sensing Applications for Healthcare from Elsevier etc. Furthermore, he is an Editorial Board Member of IEEE Data Descriptions.
