The book gives complete details of Orchids of Eastern Ghats in India. Brief details of Eastern Ghats, its geology, soils, climate etc, have been given at the beginning. A bracketed key to the genera and key to the species have been given. It is followed by systematic enumeration. A total of 197 taxa belonging to 66 genera of Orchidaceae have been systematically enumerated. Under each species, Citation according to latest ICN, synonyms to connect to National and regional floras, type, etymology, detailed description, Flowering and fruiting season, habitat, distribution (World, India, Eastern Ghats) and specimens examined have been given. All the references about orchids of Eastern Ghats have been given at the end. The essence of this book is the coloured Photographs for all the species available in Eastern Ghats. Line diagrams have also been given for some species. Endemic and Threat categories have also been mentioned. Index to genera and species has been given at the end.

Acerca del autor

K. Prasad

Dr. Kothareddy Prasad obtained his M.Sc. (2008) and Ph.D. (2013) degrees in Botany from Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Ananthapuram. He was worked as a Post Doctoral fellow (SERB-DST, under young scientist scheme) at Botanical Survey of India, Deccan Regional Centre (2014-2017). At present he is working as AJCB-PDF at Central National Herbarium, Botanical Survey of India, Kolkatta since June 2017. Dr. K. Prasad has published 30 research papers in national and international journals. He described one new genus and 15 species new to science.

S. Karuppusamy

Dr. S. Karuppusamy obtained his M.Sc. (1996) degree from Madurai Kamaraj University and Ph.D. (2002) from Gandhigram University, Tamil Nadu. He was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Sri Krishnadevaraya University (2000-2004). At present he is working as Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, The Madura College, Madurai since 2008. He has published 120 research papers and five books. He is the recipient of Young Botanist Award from Indian Botanical Society (2006). He received Prestigeous Prof. Y.S.Murthy Gold Medal of Indian Botanical Society in 2013. He is also a recipient of Rolla S. Rao award and Fellow of Association for Angiosperm Taxonomy (FIAT) from Indian Association for Angiosperm Taxonomy. He is the Principal Investigator of major research projects funded from UGC, New Delhi and SERB, New Delhi.

T. Pullaiah

Prof. T. Pullaiah obtained his M.Sc. (1973) & Ph.D. degrees in Botany from Andhra University. He was a Post Doctoral Fellow at Moscow University, Russia during 1976-78. He traveled widely in Europe and visited Universities and Botanical Gardens in about 16 countries. Prof. Pullaiah joined Sri Krishnadevaraya University as Lecturer in 1979 and became Professor in 1993. He held several positions in the University, which include Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Head of the Dept. of Botany, Chairman, BOS in Botany, Head of the Department of Sericulture, Co-ordinator and Chairman, BOS in Biotechnology, Vice Principal, S.K. University College and Warden S.K.U. Hostels. Presently Prof. Pullaiah is Principal, S.K. University College. Prof. Pullaiah has published 40 books, 228 research papers and 35 popular articles. His books include Flora of Andhra Pradesh (5 volumes), Flora of Eastern Ghats (vol. 1-3), Biodiversity in India (vol. 1-4), Taxonomy of Angiosperms (3rd ed.), Plant Development, Flora of Guntur district, Flora of Kurnool, Flora of Anantapur district, Flora of Nizamabad, Flora of Ranga Reddi district etc. He is Principal Investigator of 20 major Research Projects totaling more than a Crore of Rupees funded by DBT, DST, CSIR, UGC, BSI, WWF, GCC etc. Under his guidance 45 students obtained their Ph.D. degrees and 34 students their M.Phil. degrees. He is recipient of Best Teacher Award from Government of Andhra Pradesh, Prof. P. Maheswari Gold Medal of Indian Botanical Society & Prof. Y.D. Tyagi Gold medal of Indian Association for Angiosperm Taxonomy. He was Vice President of Indian Botanical Society and presently Councilor of the same.
