Jules Verne (1828-1905) was a famous French novelist, playwright, and poet. He is best known for his series of science-fiction adventure novels which included โJourney to the Centre of the Earthโ, โTwenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seaโ and โAround the World in Eighty Daysโ. These novels were published by Pierre-Jules Hetzel โ the publisher of Honorรฉ de Balzac and Victor Hugo among many others. Alongside these more famous works, Verne also wrote plays, poetry, and short stories. Verne died at home in Amiens in 1905. Incredibly imaginative and innovative, Verne was one of the most influential writers of his era, and continues to be a household name today.
