During the 1960s and early 1970s, northern Arizona played a critical role in fulfilling President Kennedy's bold challenge of sending humans to the moon. Kevin Schindler is the historian at Lowell Observatory, where he has worked for 21 years. He regularly contributes articles about science and history to a variety of publications and writes a regular column, The View from Mars Hill, for the Arizona Daily Sun. William Sheehan is a psychiatrist by profession and an independent scholar of the history of astronomy. Recognized worldwide as an authority in this field, he writes extensively for various magazines and journals and has authored more than a dozen highly acclaimed books.
