About this ebook

Fey both beautiful and vicious hide in the Georgia backwoods, guarded by four-hundred-year-old peanut farmer, bootlegger, and wizard Jedediah Shine.

Protecting humanity and the fey from one another is normally child's play compared to teaching magic to his new foster daughter and a Cherry Coke addicted dragonling, parenting an out-of-control half-elven teen sorceress or keeping his jealous elven ex-lover away from his new girlfriend.

Jedediah's delicate balancing act is thrown into turmoil when rebellious, young centaurs launch a genocidal war against humanity from within his borders. At the same time, a vengeful mercenary company lays a trail of suspicious murders directly to Jedediah's door. Unwitting pawns to a deeper menace, both serve a centuries-long plot to steal magic's deepest secret.

The bloody conflict thrusts Jedediah's family into Death's reach. As the body bag count rises and law enforcement closes in, Jedediah is forced to make desperate choices to protect his loved ones and magic itself by stopping the murders in his wood.

This book is captivating from the get go. Conflict and magic is the main idea of this good read. The characters are well developed and the storyline keeps you reading. If it weren't for having to do many adult things, I could have consumed this book in one sitting. I would definitely recommend Bittergate Book 1: Murder in Wizard's Wood to anyone who loves reading about the mythical beings we would all lobe to encounter. Beware those cenataurs though, they are feisty.

This book is a good fantasy novel, it does keep your attention with descriptive imagery and interesting characters. It isn’t too hard to follow with a good main group of characters with new ones added as needed. The wording was a little more aggressive than most fantasy books I’ve read but it kind of adds to the backstory.

I really enjoyed this book! The plot itself is very unique and memorable, with a descriptive setting that would be great for to model a DnD campaign after. I really connected with the characters and loved their development throughout the book. Can’t wait to read more!

About the author

Originally from Oregon, Michael J. Allen is a pluviophile masquerading as a vampire IT professional in rural Georgia. Warped from youth by the likes of Jerry Lewis, Robin Williams, Gene Wilder and Danny Kay, his sense of humor leads to occasional surrender, communicable insanity, a sweet tooth and periodic launch into nonsensical song. He loves books, movies, the occasional video game, playing with his Labradors - Myth and Magesty. He knows almost nothing about music.A recovering Game Master, he gave up running RPG's for writing because the players didn't play out the story in his head like book characters would - we know how that worked out.Suddenly fresh out of teenagers, he spends his days writing in restaurants, people watching and warring over keyboard control with the voices in his head.
