Usually firms introduce new technology in an incremental way, wisely seeking to minimise the adverse effects which business and employees might face. However, this is not always the case. Sometimes technological discontinuities occur when radically different technological systems and working practices are implemented, with the possibility of widespread disruption and conflict. A senior lecturer at the Helsinki School of Economics, Finland. He has recently finished a three-year research project on management of technology funded by the Academy of Finland. His recent publications include articles in such scholarly journals as Journal of Management Studies, The International Journal of Human Resource Management and Scandinavian Journal of Management.
