Two elements of a successful book are a compelling story and a great story teller. Proud to Be a Vietnamese American delivers both at a very high level. Ms. Nguyen brings the reader into her living room and tells a story rife with joy, sadness, love, loss and rebirth. There is no pretense, just a guided tour into the life of a most remarkable person. The reader immediately finds himself simultaneously cheering and weeping as the narrative develops. In the course of Linh's journey she prevails.
