About this ebook

Join Lin as she shares challenging sailing, gentle voyages, the shoreside encounters that await once you venture into the world of cruising under sail. Far more than just a sailing adventure, this book is also a true memoir. As she and Larry sailed north from Cape Horn to Canada, then westward across the Pacific, they had to weather the emotional passages that come with growing older. Lin chronicles the last years she shared with Larry, the solo adventure that followed and, eventually, the romance and challenge of building a new life and voyaging onward with a different partner after David sailed in to anchor near her island home. Passages: Cape Horn and Beyond will appeal to sailors of all generations as Lin pours her heart out to tell tales of sailing through gales and calms, adventures small and large. It is a love story -- of sailing, of the sea, and of the two men who have shared Lin’s life.

About the author

In 2022 Lin and Larry Pardey were inducted into the US Sailing Hall of Fame. For Larry it was a posthumous induction. At the ceremony, Lin was introduced as “The woman who launched 50,000 dreams.” For more than 50 years, through 12 books and literally hundreds of magazine articles, both Lin and Larry encouraged thousands of potential sailors to set sail and find their own adventures. Working alongside Larry, Lin helped build two capable engine-free wooden boats then voyaged on them to more than 77 countries during extended east about and west about circumnavigations including sailing against the prevailing wind westward around the great southern capes. When age took Larry, Lin continued sailing and eventually met David Haigh, an Australian circumnavigator. Together they continue voyaging on Sahula, David’s 40-foot steel cutter. Lin is also enjoying writing and sharing the lessons sailing has taught her as she helps prepare Sahula for a voyage west towards Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.

Lin and Larry often said they would continue cruising for “As long as it’s Fun.” With 58 years of voyaging under her keel and with a new partner, Lin has now amended this to, “As long as we’re able.”
