Light Changes Everything: A Novel

This whole series was delightful but I particularly loved this book. Mary Pearl's voice as a character is just lovely. she's such an interesting mix of things for a person. artistic and practical, adventurous and family oriented, without guile in some ways but very capable of keeping secrets, smart but naive. what truly makes this book wonderful is the strength of the female characters. not in the traditional "strong female character who is written like a man" (though there are female characters who can ride and shoot and otherwise do ranch chores just as well as the men), but in the sense that the women (and men too) in this family love and care for one another and the strength is in the way they bear one another's burdens through hard times. It was also very hard to put down and I neglected some important tasks to finish it. trigger warnings: violence (wild west), turn of the century medicine, rape, kidnapping. in short, lots of tough topics but the author handled them well

Light Changes Everything by Nancy E. Turner is Historical Fiction in the Arizona Territory of the early 1900‘s. I look forward to each new book by Nancy E.Turner, her words take you to the time, place and culture she is writing about.. Her newest book is realistic and details life’s unexpected heartaches and joys. It is full of exciting adventures with Sarah Prine‘s niece Mary Pearl and involve the whole Prine family. If you like historical fiction Light Changes Everything is a must read. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
