This book provides a comprehensive overview of the latest applications of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) in the environmental and forensic sciences along with chemometric methods. Environmental and forensic science increasingly requires multidisciplinary scientific methods, and LIBS has proven itself a more sensitive and user-friendly technology that can meet the demands of these fields. In addition, LIBS coupled with chemometric modeling approaches creates a powerful tool for detecting and quantitatively predicting the chemical composition of a variety of samples. As a result, this book consolidates essential developments in LIBS, data analysis using chemometrics, and breakthrough applications in environmental and forensic sciences. Beginning with an introduction of the principles of LIBS, the reader is then guided through field and sample-specific applications. An overview of LIBS-Raman instrumentation from basic to more advanced set-ups is also included. The analytical capabilities of the methods in terms of detection limits, accuracy, and precision of measurements for forensic and environmental samples is specifically covered. This book effectively translates the latest developments in algorithms for spectroscopic data and interpretation into these fields. Highlighting the utility of LIBS in environmental and forensic sciences, this book is an essential text for researchers well versed in the fields and as well as readers wanting to familiarize themselves with LIBS as a whole.

Dr. Vivek Kumar Singh joined University of Lucknow, India, in 2021 as an Associate Professor at the Department of Physics. Prior to this, Dr. Singh served at SMVD University, India from July 2008 to December 2021. Dr. Singh has more than 15 years of teaching and research experience at the University level. Dr. Singh completed his D. Phil. degree from University of Allahabad, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, India. In the last decade, Dr. Singh has worked extensively on applications of XRF, LIBS, TOF-SIMS, UV-Visible, and FTIR spectroscopy for the study of several biological specimens such as gallstones, kidney stones, teeth, bones, plants, environmental samples, salts and others. His research interests are in X-ray spectrometry and Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy. His current research interests include multi-spectroscopy studies of biological samples, organic samples, medicinal plant samples, environmental samples, agricultural samples, and food products. Trace and heavy metal and toxic element determination in bio samples, food products (for quality check), and medicinal plant samples are the major thrust areas of Dr. Singh. He has published more than 100 international research papers, review articles, and book chapters in renowned international journals with good impact factors. He has authored several book chapters in books published by Springer, Elsevier and Wiley. He has successfully edited books on “Nanomaterials and Environmental Biotechnology” published by Springer Nature; “X-Ray Fluorescence in Biological Sciences: Principles, Instrumentations and Applications” published by Wiley & Sons Inc.; and “Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS): Concepts, Instrumentation, Data Analysis and Applications” by Wiley & Sons Inc; and "Applied Raman Spectroscopy" by Elsevier. He is also a life member of several academic and professional societies. Dr. Singh is a recipient of the prestigious “Raman Fellowship” awarded by University Grants Commission (UGC), Govt. of India for the year 2015-16 for Post-Doctoral Research in Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) operated by University of California, Berkeley, USA. He has been a visiting scientist in many reputed Universities and institutions in USA and delivered lectures at conferences held in USA and China.
