Kleinboer ontvang in 2004 die Jan Rabie Rapport-prys vir sy debuutwerk, Kontrei, en hierna volg Werfsonde. Hy is in 1956 op die Oos-Rand gebore en het in Kemptonpark grootgeword. Na jare as rekenaarprogrammeerder en stelseladministrateur het hy taalversorging vir ’n landboutydskrif gedoen. Hy werk tans as subredakteur by ’n dagblad en woon in Yeoville.
