About this ebook

This study investigated the effects of digital exposure on cognitive performance and behavioral outcomes in children aged 4-8 years. A sample of 120 children was divided into three groups based on daily screen time: <1 hour (n=30), 1-2 hours (n=50), and >2 hours (n=40). Cognitive performance was assessed using the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence (WPPSI-IV). Results showed a significant negative correlation between screen time and cognitive performance (ANOVA: F=5.23, p=0.007). Children with <1 hour of screen time scored higher (mean=105, SD=10.5) compared to those with 1-2 hours (mean=98, SD=12.3) and >2 hours (mean=90, SD=14.1). Behavioral observations revealed that increased screen time was associated with shorter attention spans, lower social interaction scores, and higher frustration levels. Qualitative data from parent interviews highlighted positive aspects of digital usage for learning, concerns about screen time management, and socio-economic factors affecting access to digital resources. The study underscores the need for balanced approaches to digital integration in early childhood education while addressing potential negative impacts and socio-economic disparities in access.
