Die Leichenpredigten des Barock sind Zeugnisse der multimedialen kulturellen Wirkung von Glaube und Frömmigkeit. Die Autorin analysiert Phänomene, Aspekte und Kontexte der Rede von Leid und Trost in ausgewählten lutherischen und katholischen Leichenpredigten des 17. Jahrhunderts, die bedeutend für die Erforschung inter- und transkonfessioneller Prozesse sind. In der quellennahen und historisch-kontextualisierenden Untersuchung wird die von den Predigern artikulierte christliche Lehre und Frömmigkeit angesichts der existentiellen Erfahrung von Endlichkeit und Sterblichkeit diskutiert. Einbezogen werden weitere Texte wie Epicedien, Epitaphien und dogmatische Schriften sowie die zeitgenössische Meditationsliteratur und ausgewählte Zeugnisse aus den Bereichen der geistlichen Lyrik und der frühneuzeitlichen Druckgraphik. The Early Modern funeral sermons are testimonials to the cultural impact of faith and religiosity. The author provides an analysis of how seventeenth-century Lutheran and Catholic funeral preaching deals with sorrow and consolation. It looks at these aspects as interconfessional phenomena in the multimedia context of the sermons, discussing how preachers articulate Christian doctrine and religious piety in the face of human finitude and mortality. Additional sources such as epicedia, epitaphs, dogmatic writing, and contemporary texts of meditation, together with selected examples from Early Modern sacred poetry and printed graphics supplement the study.

Dr. Sarah Lehmann studierte Mittlere und Neuere Geschichte, Kirchen- und Dogmengeschichte sowie Psychologie an den Universitäten Hamburg und Cádiz, Spanien, und wurde 2017 promoviert. Derzeit ist sie als Postdoktorandin an der Universität Hamburg tätig.
