Orphaned at an early age, Jane Eyre survives an unhappy childhood at the grim Lowood School. Despite Jane's deprived background, her intelligence and courage earn her a position as a governess at the imposing home of Mr Rochester. The Bronte Sisters are best known for writing some of the most enduring and loved novels of all time, as well as many beautifully crafted poems. First published under the pseudonyms Currer, Ellis and Acton Bell, they have since inspired numerous adaptations of their work, and the parsonage in Haworth, Yorkshire, where they lived is now a place of pilgrimage for their many fans from around the world.
