Little to no character development - Otto has no revelations, gains no new power. An established character 180s in the most boring way possible, with no risk to anyone. It wasn't bad, but I wasn't eager to read it - normally I can't put a book down near the end, but I had no problems pausing this one to do other tasks. The only references to 10 years passing were 'wow everyone looks older' - no real updates on the Empire (Lux is well behaved Straken still isn't - all that's mentioned). No intrigue or mystery, Otto shows up, Otto kills the baddies, and Otto leaves. Such a meh book. Most of it was the travelling (genuinely over half the book is before they reach the new continent) and no, nothing happens during the travelling.
