Isna Marifa is a senior environmental specialist and author. Brought up mostly in Indonesia, she also spent time in the US and Japan following her father’s postings as a diplomat. She was thus exposed to literature from different parts of the world, finding in it a window to people, their history, and culture. A visit to South Africa led to her commitment to telling the story of the Javanese who were taken there in the colonial era. Mountains More Ancient (Kabar Media, 2022) is her first novel.
