About this ebook

Henrik Ibsen’s Ghosts, written in the late 19th century, follows Mrs. Helen Alving as she prepares a memorial for her late husband while confronting the shadows of the past. Through her son Oswald, Pastor Manders, and the scheming carpenter Engstrand, the play reveals the hidden conflicts of morality and social hypocrisy. It opens in a tense household atmosphere, where conversations uncover long-suppressed emotions and unspoken truths. The preparations for the orphanage appear solemn on the surface but are fraught with distrust and personal ambition. Ultimately, the drama exposes the contradictions of legacy, duty, and societal expectations, shaking the foundations of the characters’ lives.
