The letter to the Hebrews was written to show that believers shouldn't look back when God is pointing them forwards. The early Church was encouraged to press on eagerly in faith, trusting and hoping unflaggingly for the fulfilment of God's promises.

He is the author of more than 80 influential books, including The New Testament for Everyone, Simply Christian, Surprised by Hope, The Day the Revolution Began, Paul: A biography, The New Testament in its World and On Earth as in Heaven (all published by SPCK)
