I received a complimentary copy of this book from Booksprout and I am voluntarily reviewing it. I love Ms. Bell's works normally. I REALLY struggled here. I had to put the book away several times as I just couldn't get into it. I hate not finishing a book so I would continue to pick it back up. I just couldn't connect with these two characters. I couldn't feel the connection between them either. The book is written in a dual POV format which is a big plus for me and helps to make the connect for me but not here. That being said, even though the characters didn't resonate with me doesn't mean that you won't like it.

This charming little town pulled me into its warm and inviting atmosphere and kept me wrapped in it until long after the book was over. Now, I’ve always been a sucker for a second chance, but you give me one in a quirky southern town with a former military hero and a down-on-her-luck heroine who’s starting over, and I’m a goner. I fell in love with Cole and Valerie immediately. Sure, there was plenty of old hurts between them, but there was also no shortage of love, or chemistry. I have been utterly charmed by Charming and I hope we get to come back and read more about its unique collection of residents. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book through Booksprout.

Four and a half stars Winning Mr. Charming by Heatherly Bell is set in fictional Charming, Texas, along the Gulf Coast. Cole Kinsella, a SEAL now running The Salty Dog Bar & Grill, is hiring additional help, who appears in the form of one Valerie Hill. When his new server arrives, he immediately recognizes his former summer love who broke his heart as much as he broke hers when he enlisted and she went to pursue her degree. Valerie's back in town to take care of her ailing grandmother and to ensure she's able to remain in her home after the loss of her husband. Heatherly Bell's story is indeed charming and captivating. Valerie and Cole have not gotten through their years apart unscathed but it's a delight to watch them find their way back to each other and to surer footing. Ms Bell portrays their relationship as well as the ones they have with their families, friends, and exes very realistically, with both the joys and laughs as well as the sheer frustration that those connections can bring to our lives. Winning Mr. Charming is a terrific read, and I'd love to visit Charming, Texas again!
