An excellent complement to Moore & Gibbons' WATCHMEN, DOOMSDAY CLOCK is at once a remix, sequel and commentary on its permanently-more famous forebear. Johns and Frank manage to use the maxiseries as a commentary on WATCHMEN, on the comics industry, on DC especially, and then as a laserlike critique *and* vindication of the need and usefulness of CRISIS events. At the same time, there is sharp political and social commentary that is at once of-its-time and potentially timeless. The series acts and reacts as DC's answer to Marvel's CIVIL WAR (and the MCU take on it in Captain America: Civil War (2016)) as well as using backdoor retcons - which archly lampshading and pastiching the same - to restore Superboy and the Legion of SuperHeroes. Trump looms large from the sidelines, but the series injects the hope and optimism of the Man of Steel against the calculated realism/pessimism of Adrian Veidt.

It didn't butcher the Watchmen, and that's an insane accomplishment. Way better than that race HBO show called Watchmen. It had so many great moments. Don't hate me but Snyder's version of Watchmen is more enjoyable and flows better than the comic. Yeah, I said it, whatcha u gonna do? In the comic the octopus bomb felt so random and it was unnecessary. My boy Snyder fixed it.

Fantastic! Also, a great prologue to Batman 21-22 and Flash 21-22 "The Button" with Tom King and Joshua Williamson. Highly recommended if you want to see your favorite super hero.
