About this eBook

Brittany Handle was doing the best she could. She had just gotten out of a violently abusive relationship, and she was doing her best to get her business rolling. Having heard her sister died, she and her son, Jamie, went to Ohio to settle her sister’s affairs.

Dwayne Bishop was settling into his new job at Addington. The owner was grooming him to take over when she retired. He was walking back to his office when Jamie literally barreled into him. The boy was being chased by three bullies. He had given as good as he got until one of them had hit him in the head with a baseball bat. Dwayne stepped in and protected the boy. Once back at his office, the boy was hurt worse than Dwayne thought and collapsed. Panicking, Dwayne reaches out to his family for help.

Brit was doing her best to keep her shit together. Everyone kept saying it was bad, but she hadn’t seen Jamie yet, and until she did, she was doing her best to keep from snapping at everyone. But when Dwayne handed her what Jamie had had in his pocket, the jolt nearly knocked her off her chair. They were mates! She had just got out of one abusive relationship. There was no way she was bowing down to any man ever again….

It's been a while since I've been back to "Bishop's Leap" so it took me a minute to pull the memories from my mind for 'Dwayne', the fifth book in this series by Kathi S. Barton. This book can be read as a standalone and you'll thoroughly enjoy it but it's always better to read the series in order to get the full effect the author is trying to give. There's so much going on with this one. Dwayne, of course, is working for Addie as her second and has become quite successful at it. So much so he's learned she intends for him to take over the business when she retires. Now, if you have been following the series, then you'll remember that Dwayne had tried to help a family he found in their car. The husband and two children had died and the woman was barely hanging on but right before she expired Bree made Dwayne promise to call her sister Brit and tell her what happened. Was it an accident or foul play? Brit assured Dwayne she would be there in a few days. Before he even knew they had arrived, a young boy ran into him, while being chased by three local boys, as he was coming out of his office. Turns out Jamie had been injured pretty badly and was bleeding from the back of his head and had to be taken to the hospital. That's where Brit and Dwayne eventually meet. The chemistry is there between these two but it's one that had to get over several of Brit's obstacles. Samuel, a vampire, makes a brief appearance with some ominous vision which kept me wondering throughout the remainder of the book. I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline and am anxiously awaiting 'Quincy'.
