Dieter Hein lehrte als Professor für Neuere Geschichte an der Universität Frankfurt am Main. Schwerpunkte seiner Forschungen bilden die Geschichte des Bürgertums im 19. Jahrhundert sowie die Parteien- und Sozialgeschichte des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts.
