Hock is hired by the son of the mayor of the city to investigate a woman who is suspected of being a threat to the political ambitions of his father. Hock quickly clears her, but in the process the mayors wife is murdered. Rehired to pursue the killer, Hock finds himself entangled with several exceptionally sexy women. Douglas Browning, retired university professor of philosophy, lives outside Georgetown, Texas, where he labors at length over poems and novels, stays up throughout the night reading, writing, listening to jazz, and smoking cigars, and enjoys life in his countryside hacienda with his talented and beautiful wife.
